Community-based
This program allows you the opportunity to pick up your Little Brother or Little Sister at the child's home and spend time in the community. Outings can range from going for a walk, working on arts and crafts, taking a bike ride, or watching a sporting event. Remember, it's not the money you spend, but the time spent doing activities you both enjoy. Our agency also provides free or reduced tickets to various events in the community. In the Community-based program, volunteers spend at least nine hours with their Little, either on the weekend or other convenient times. Community-based eligibility:
Must be at least 18 years old
Must sign up for one year of service
Must be an area resident for at least three months
Must agree to visit with your "Little" on average three times a month (providing your own transportation)
Must complete national background screening. Must not have been convicted of a felony charge in past 10 years. Background check results will be evaluated by a screening committee for approval.
Must have acceptable driving record and provide a copy of drivers license and auto insurance card. Must not have had more than 12 points in past 7 years on driving record in order to be eligible for the community-based program. Must not have had had a DUI conviction in the past 5 years to be eligible for the community-based program.
